Our Story

Nestled in the picturesque Broke Fordwich wine region of the Hunter Valley, Beckels Vineyard is a family-owned boutique vineyard set along the tranquil banks of Wollombi Brook, surrounded by rolling hills and the natural beauty of nearby Yengo National Park.

Owned and operated by husband-and-wife team Ian and Rebecca Bower, Beckels Vineyard is truly a family endeavour. With the support of their parents, three daughters, extended family and friends, the vineyard has been a labour of love built on passion, dedication and many years of hard work. Their beloved dog, Mr Toohey, was a cherished part of the journey for many years and remains a treasured part of the Beckels story. Today, a new four-legged family member, Austin, has proudly taken on the role of vineyard companion.

The nameBeckelsoriginates from Rebecca's nickname, affectionately given to her by her daughters' friends. The vineyard's logo features the Bowerbird, a species found on the property and a meaningful tribute to the family's surname, Bower.

The property has a rich viticultural history. Originally established as Cockfighter Creek Vineyard in 1993, it produced award-winning Semillon and has long been recognised as a premium vineyard site. In 2018, Ian and Rebecca purchased the property as a rural retreat, drawn to the beauty of Broke, its stunning landscapes and its welcoming community. What began as a simple idea to plant a few vines at the entrance to the property soon evolved into a much larger vision.

The vineyard was developed and planted by the family in two stages. Shiraz and Chardonnay were established first, followed two years later by the addition of Fiano and Barbera, two exciting Italian varietals that reflect the family's passion for exploring new expressions of wine alongside classic Hunter Valley favourites. The inaugural vintage of these Italian varietals was released in 2024, marking an exciting new chapter for Beckels Vineyard.

Working alongside talented winemaker Daniel Binet, one of the Hunter Valley's most respected young winemakers, Beckels Vineyard produces wines that showcase both the unique character of the Broke Fordwich region and the family's vision. From classic Hunter Valley varietals to exciting Italian wines, every bottle is crafted to celebrate the land, the season and the story behind Beckels Vineyard.

Today, Beckels Vineyard is a reflection of the Bower family's passion for wine, community and creating something special together. Every bottle tells a story of hard work, dedication and a deep connection to the land. The family is proud to share the fruits of their labour and hopes that every glass of Beckels wine brings as much enjoyment to others as it does to them.
